Parables Community is Suspending All Ministry Activities at This Time

With gratitude for the last four years and in light of current circumstances, Parables Community is suspending all ministry activities at this time. Please click on this link to read letters from Pastor Jeanne and Board Chair Jonathan for more information. Thank you for your prayerful support both past and present.

Welcome to Everybody

“Each person is given something to do that shows who God is: Everyone gets in on it, everyone benefits. All kinds of things are handed out by the Spirit, and to all kinds of people! The variety is wonderful.”

1 Corinthians 12:7, The Message

In our church community everybody belongs and everybody serves. We believe that every person has needs and every person has gifts to share that have been given by God for the good of all. We try to address needs and affirm gifts in a community of mutual grace and encouragement.

Our worship services are designed to be participatory and accessible to everyone, using music, art, symbols, and images. We provide noise-reducing headphones, fidgets, and calming aids such as weighted blankets. There is also a sensory area adjoining the worship space for those who want to take a little break. People with various gifts lead in worship as they are able – reading, praying, singing, greeting, and making music. Parables worship is a “no-shushing zone” of acceptance and joy. Come as you are – we’ll be glad to see you.

An Evening with Ken Medema [postponed]

Ken at piano

Ken Medema will be performing a concert for Parables Community on Sunday, April 19 at 4 pm. Invite your family and friends for an unforgettable evening of music and joy. Ken’s concerts are fun for all ages. Ken is plays piano and keyboard, and sings, improvising in a variety of styles. Ken was born unable to see with his physical eyes. Because he has lived with being different all his life, he has sympathy for people who have been marginalized because of disability or for other reasons. Ken has a Master’s Degree in Music Therapy. He currently performs in a wide variety of venues across the country, including corporate conferences and national church gatherings.

Admission is free. An offering will be collected for Parables Community during the evening.

“Ken made us cry. He made us think and laugh and just feel good.” Mary Erickson, Urban Ministry of Bel Air Presbyterian Church, Los Angeles

“Parables is a peaceful, non-judgmental community church [that creates] an environment where we are able to be comfortable in the skin that my grand-daughter is in. And I can be so very relaxed, stress free, and not be so focused on and nervous about her behavior and language. Inside the Parables church you can feel confident in coming as you are and being received and accepted.” – Cardean
